Marketing...what they didn't teach you in nursing school

Marketing.....something many nurses don't think they know how to do. After all, it wasn't one of the subjects they taught in nursing school.

Actually you were, it just wasn't called that.

Every day in your dealings with patients, residents, clients you spend time convincing them of the benefits of health care..."what's in it for them".

You were told it was providing information so patients could make "informed Decisions".

    That IS basic marketing.

You market health care on an almost daily basis by providing INFORMATION...INFORMATION...INFORMATION

So, when you decide to branch out in to another business, whether it is health related or not, your marketing strategy must be to SHOW and TELL your prospective clients/customers...."what's in it for them"

    And always stress the BENEFITS...BENEFITS...BENEFITS

The bare basics you MUST do:

  • business cards
  • These are so inexpensive to buy, and super easy to make yourself. Just remember to keep it simple; not over wordy, 2 colors should be enough and use good quality paper. If you offer a FREE consultation state it on your business card.

  • A simple, short but explanatory business name
  • It should say, in clear and short terms, who you are / what your service is. In my ebook The Nurses Action Guide to Starting Your Own Business I mentioned why my original name for my home health care business was a real flop. A lesson learned for me.

    Read it now

  • A unique selling proposition (USP)
  • The mere fact that you are, or have been, a nurse will be a selling point for prospective customers.

People look for services and companies they feel they can trust. People still do TRUST nurses.

But never, never, misuse that trust!
