Nursing has become much more than what Florence Nightingale envisioned. Today's nurses need to be politically strong, strong in voice and action, in order to provide the type of health care the world's citizens deserve.
Who is Wendy Getchell?
I have been a Registered Nurse for over 23 years. I have retired from hands-on nursing and have moved forward, providing a strong voice for the profession.I currently write books, articles, blog posts and comment on Canadian and global news stories about our profession. I am also helping individual nurses in another way. Though hourly wages in North America are great, for the most part, many nurses are still struggling financially. I am helping individuals find new ways to use their nursing knowledge, make great incomes and not have to worry about putting in excessive overtime; time that is taken away from their own families. Four years ago I discovered a tool, and a wonderful Canadian company, that helped me create my own new direction in nursing. With no knowledge of html or how to build a web site I easily mastered the art of building a web business. It was so easy! I created NurseSentry.com which now allows me to find other nurses, and they to find me, helping them start or advance their nursing career. Having a web presence also allows me to be more visible to the political world, giving my voice and support to a strong and vibrant profession.
