Nursing homes

Nursing homes are not doing right by the residents who reside there.
I have worked off and on for several years in nursing homes and I have seen little improvement. I know there is a nursing shortage but I don't feel many nursing homes care to even try to budget for more. Governments set nurse-to-patient staffing ratios for hospitals but are they even aware of the ratios in a nursing home. All I seem to do is give out medications (too many) to 30 or more residents twice each day. The 0800 meds are often not given until 0900. I do the best I can, but there has to be a better way.
I once had an employer who asked me not to chart medication errors (missed meds). That would be unheard of in a hospital setting.
I have also noticed that eye care as well as proper mouth care are sadly lacking for these residents. I try where I can but nursing homes need also to hire (and perhaps better train) more health care aids.
It feels sad to say, I hope I never end up in a home myself.
